Infrastructure — Heavy Civil Contractors

Heavy civil contractors, preserved.

Family-owned earthwork, road, and site contractors — the crews and equipment that build and maintain the Mountain West — held by an owner who intends to keep them.

Earthwork on a heavy civil site.

Why heavy civil, and why now

Heavy civil contractors move the earth, build the roads, lay the pads, and repair the bridges that everything else depends on. Many of the best ones in Colorado and across the Mountain West were founded by one family a generation or two ago. Their owners are now nearing retirement, often with no family member or manager lined up to take over.

At the same time, the work isn’t going anywhere. The country faces a long backlog of deferred infrastructure maintenance, and public and private owners still need contractors they can trust. A well-run civil firm with a strong backlog, good equipment, and a loyal crew is a durable business.

What we look for

  • An established, profitable contractor with a record of completed public and private work.
  • A real backlog and long relationships with owners, agencies, and general contractors.
  • Well-kept equipment and the shop and people to maintain it.
  • Experienced superintendents and foremen who will stay through the transition.
  • Bonding capacity that we can support and grow.

How we own a construction company

We buy to keep. That means no forced sale on a fund’s clock, conservative debt so a slow season doesn’t become a crisis, and a transition shaped around the owner — stay on, step back over time, or hand it off. We support bonding and equipment financing, invest in safety, and build an anchor firm that complementary contractors, such as underground utility specialists, can join over time.

Keeping the crew together

A contractor’s value walks out the gate every evening. The operators, foremen, and estimators are the business. We keep them, pay them fairly, and pair them with apprentices so their knowledge stays in the company. Read how we train the next generation.

Questions

Frequently asked.

Does Omega buy construction companies?

Yes. We acquire established, family-owned heavy civil and site contractors, mainly in Colorado and the Mountain West, and hold them for the long term.

What size contractor does Omega look for?

Established, profitable firms with a track record of completed work and a team that can carry the business forward. We look at each contractor on its merits.

What happens to the crew and the company name?

We intend to keep both. The people and the reputation are what make a contractor work, so the name, the crew, and the relationships stay.

Can I invest in Omega’s infrastructure strategy?
